Parksville city council hopes to meet with several provincial ministries at the Union of B.C. Municipalities (UBCM) convention this fall.

Ministers and provincial agency representatives meet with municipal government officials each year, which provides local governments an opportunity to bring forward issues they believe affect both their community and the province.

Council will request meetings with the Ministry of Health to discuss the medical practitioner shortage in Parksville, the Ministry of Attorney General and Responsible for Housing to discuss stiffer penalties, public safety, downtown social issues, and crime, as well as affordable housing and the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) about a proposed interchange and connection across the Orange Bridge, pedestrian options and the Rathtrevor Trail.

Council also indicated it would like Adam Walker, Parksville-Qualicum MLA, to attend the meetings.

Mayor Ed Mayne said council will likely get a chance to meet with a few, but not all, of the ministries.

The 2022 UBCM Convention runs from Sept. 12 to Sept. 16 in Whistler.
