The City of Parksville is ready to discuss the next steps for the aquatic and recreation centre project.

A release issued on Feb. 1 by the city’s manager of communications stated Parksville city council will meet as committee of the whole to discuss the project on Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m. in the Forum (100 Jensen Ave.).

A committee of the whole meeting provides a less formal opportunity for council to consider and discuss options for the project. At this meeting, council will consider the next steps such as project scope, potential sites and siting criteria, budget, timelines, roles of the Regional District of Nanaimo and other levels of government, and future public engagement and consultation. Council will also consider if the project planning should proceed at this time, be suspended for a period, or cancelled and removed from the workplan.

In December 2021, council directed staff to arrange this meeting before adding funds to the 2022 budget.
