Two Parksville city councillors will not seek re-election this fall.

Coun. Al Greir, elected four times since 2008, made the announcement during council’s Sept. 7 regular meeting.

“It is my opinion that this council rates as one of the best I have seen over many years of covering municipal affairs,” he said. Greir added he has been in politics, at different levels, since he was 20.

Greir thanked council members and city staff for their good work over the years, as well as friends, family and residents.

Greir sits on the audit committee and is the council liaison to the Nature Trust Brant Festival and the Oceanside Development and Construction Association.

Coun. Mark Chandler announced his decision not to run in a Facebook post in August.

Chandler said he plans to take a year-long roadtrip across North America, departing in November.

Chandler is currently the council liaison to the Parksville and District Chamber of Commerce and the Parksville Downtown Business Association.
