Parksville Fire has received formal accreditation to deliver an alternate water supply for public fire protection in the Parksville Fire Protection Area via Superior Tanker Shuttle Service.

The city, working with neighbouring fire departments in Errington, Coombs, Nanoose Bay and Qualicum Beach, is registered in the Canadian Fire Insurance grading index as being accredited for delivery of this service.

Within the Parksville Fire Protection Area, residences located on Grieg Road, Martindale Road, Wildgreen Way, Fourneau Way, Hodges Road and parts of Lowry’s Road may be eligible for insurance savings. We encourage residents in these areas to check with your insurance provider to determine if your property is eligible for a review of your fire insurance rates.

The superior tanker shuttle service is a process of shuttling water using mobile water supply apparatus such as fire department tankers from fire hydrants and alternative water supply points to the fire site.

To achieve the accreditation, the fire departments had to demonstrate they could transport water from static water supplies or fire hydrant and maintain a flow of 1,000 litres per minute for up two hours.

Over the course of the two days of testing, each department used pumper trucks and water tender trucks to haul water from designated water supply sites to mock fire locations to demonstrate capabilities to qualify for the accreditation.
