PARKSVILLE - The proposed health centre serving Parksville, Qualicum Beach and area is one step closer to construction, after an announcement today (Wed., Jan. 25) that it's been given final approval.

Apparently granted by the Vancouver Island Health Authority and the Nanaimo Regional Hospital District, the media release announcing the approval only states construction will start this year, with completion expected in early 2013 - and will open to patients in June, 2013. The health centre (tentatively called the Oceanside Health Centre) will be located near the Trillium Lodge seniors care facility in Parksville.

"The Oceanside Health Centre will be a two-story, 3,640 square metre (39,000 square feet) facility, with a construction budget of $15.79 million, cost shared between VIHA and the NRHD," states the media release. "The building will be completed in early 2013, and following building commissioning, it will open for patients in June 2013."

"Over the coming weeks, VIHA will be providing additional information about the Oceanside Health Centre, including details about its services and how these will link together, design and floor plans, additional support services and health care providers."
