A Parksville man has received a Canadian Scholarship Trust Foundation’s (CSTF) 2021 Founders Award.

Winner Steven Schan is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Physiotherapy at the University of Toronto.

In a promotional video by the Canadian Scholarship Trust, Schan said: “It’s just kind of a nice feeling knowing that no matter where I want to go, or what I want to do, there are people out there who are making this possible.”

As a reflection of the CSTF’s commitment to making post-secondary education accessible, CSTF has awarded $250,000 to 35 Canadian students through its 2021 Awards and Bursaries program.

This year, all 35 award winners are first-generation students whose financial need may make it difficult to continue their studies.

The cost of education continues to rise in Canada. The average undergraduate tuition rose to $6,580 and the average graduate school bill to $7,304 in 2020-2021.

In total, 10 of CSTF’s beneficiaries received $10,000 each to continue their education through another post-secondary program and 25 very deserving high school students received $6,000 each to pursue post-secondary education.
