Parksville police promise Canada Day crackdown

Oceanside RCMP will have extra resources on duty Fri., July 1 — and the Canada Day holiday weekend.

PARKSVILLE — Oceanside RCMP will have extra resources on duty Fri., July 1 — and the Canada Day holiday weekend.

"We want to ensure that the public have a safe and enjoyable weekend," said Sgt. Darrell Robertson in a media release.

Although Parksville is likely to be the largest celebration in the area there are also celebrations planned for the Lighthouse community area.

Police will be out in their vehicles, on foot and on bikes, patrolling the community.

Robertson stated there will zero tolerance for infractions under the Liquor Act.  Anyone under the influence of liquor and found causing problems will likely experience the hospitality of the RCMP, he wrote.

With this being the busiest weekend of the summer for the Oceanside area, the motoring public can be certain the police will be targeting both careless and drinking drivers — and boaters are not exempt. Under the Criminal Code operating a boat on the water while impaired carries the same penalties as on the road.
