If you’ve ever taken a photo of your food for social media, now’s your time to shine!

In a release issued by the City of Parksville, Deb Tardiff, the manager of communications for the city, stated that the city has temporarily allowed restaurants to provide outdoor seating on public sidewalks and parking lots. This was allowed as to help with spacing concerns and physical distancing requirements during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The latest COVID-19 restrictions have hit the restaurant industry particularly hard with restaurants now closed to indoor dining, the next few weeks will be even more challenging,” wrote Tardiff. “We can show support for our local restaurants by ordering take-out or visiting an outdoor patio with members of your household and participating in the Parksville Patio Challenge.”

To participate in the challenge, residents are encouraged to take photos of themselves and household members at their favourite outdoor patios in the city. The photos will then need to be shared to social media, Instagram or Twitter, must have the restaurant name tagged in the post and use the hashtag #ParksvillePatios.

“Through this challenging time, restaurants and businesses have shown incredible resilience and our community can help get them through this next phase. Please consider supporting our local restaurants by participating in the Parksville Patio Challenge,” read the release.
