Parksville Qualicum Beach crime report: Resident burned by cryptocurrency scam

Caller purported to be from border security agency

Oceanside RCMP received 237 complaints the week of Nov. 8-14.

Some of the incidents included:

Nov. 8

• A fire in a garbage can and another in a concrete garbage bin was reported in the 200 block of Island Highway East, Parksville. No reported damage to buildings.

• A 2000 white Dodge Dakota, B.C. licence plate NV9174, was reported stolen in the 200 block of Island Highway West, Parksville. This vehicle has not been recovered.

• A residential break-and-enter was reported in the 200 block of Island Highway West. Noted stolen were a black/grey Santa Cruz Z10 mountain bike, Jet wrenches and assorted tools.

• Two pairs of RX sunglasses, registration papers and change were reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 100 block of McCarter Street, Parksville.

• Recycling items were reported stolen from a shed in the 2600 block of Powder Point Road, Nanoose Bay.

• B.C. licence plate JE938C was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 300 block of Morison Avenue, Parksville.

• Nighttime prowlers were reported in the 1300 block of Alberni Highway, Parksville.

Nov. 9

• A purse containing a wallet was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Craig Street, Parksville.

• Graffiti was reported sprayed on a building in the 100 block of Beachside Drive, Parksville.

• A fuel can and diesel reported stolen in the 1200 block of Alberni Highway, Parksville.

Nov. 10

• A fire was reported set in a bus shelter in the 100 block of Jensen Avenue West, Parksville. Parksville Fire Department responded.

• A backpack was reported set on fire in 100 block of Morison Avenue, Parksville. No damage noted to nearby buildings.

• An iPhone 11 with a purple case and floating glitter was reported stolen in the 3500 block of Island Highway West, Qualicum Beach.

• Two electric batteries for an E-bike were reported stolen after a delivery in the 200 block of Buller Road, Qualicum Beach.

Nov. 11

• A residential break-and-enter was reported in the 100 block of Horne Lake Road, Qualicum Beach. One person was arrested.

• Money was reported stolen from an unlocked vehicle in the 400 block of Warder Crescent, Qualicum Beach.

• A trailer tire was reported vandalized in the 100 block of Moilliet Street South. Parksville.

Nov. 12

• A business break-and-enter was reported in the 6900 block of Island Highway, Bowser. A male and female were arrested.

• A business break-and-enter was reported in the 1000 block of Herring Gull Way, Parksville. A male was arrested.

• A nighttime prowler was reported in the 1400 block of Cimarron Court, Parksville. A male was arrested.

• Tools were reported stolen from a construction site in the 200 block of Buller Road, Qualicum Beach. The lock to a steel storage container was recorded.

• A local resident was reported to have been scammed out of thousands of dollars responding to a fraud call alleged to be from Canada Border Security Agency asking for payment in cryptocurrency.

• B.C. licence plate NL2616 was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 1000 block of Lee Road, Parksville.

• B.C. licence plate HF508S was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 2700 block of Island Highway West, Qualicum Beach.

Nov. 13

• A catalytic converter was reported stolen from a vehicle in the 900 block of Fairdowne Road, Parksville.
