Parksville’s mayor wants to make things a little easier for first-time home buyers.

Ed Mayne introduced a notice of motion during council’s April 20 meeting, to have city staff review a proposal to provide down payment assistance to first-time buyers. The purpose of the review is to explore what would be required to implement it, if approved by council.

Mayne brought a second notice of motion to have staff consider bylaw changes to remove rezoning requirements for affordable and co-op housing developments, as long as they meet official community plan density requirements.

Both motions will be up for discussion at council’s next regular meeting on May 2.
