Parksville’s Shelly Creek Park will see a playground upgrade in 2021.

The upgrade will include a free-standing play structure that has two slides, climbing towers, balance objects and other free form play elements.

The upgrade was originally planned for 2020, but became delayed as the city had trouble obtaining certain equipment due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

City staff requested, and the parks committee recommended, that the funding be carried forward into 2021 to facilitate the Shelly Creek Park playground upgrade without jeopardizing other planned projects in 2021.

Parksville city council voted in favour to carry forward $43,493 from 2020’s budget to this year’s budget.

Shelly Creek Park also saw a pedestrian foot bridge installed between Aug. 24 and Sept. 15 in 2020, at the approximate cost of $15,000.
