Pedestrian hurt at Highway on ramp

RCMP are investigating the cause of the crash just outside of Parksville Tuesday

Police are investigating the cause of a pedestrian being struck on the on ramp to Highway 19 Tuesday.

A 54-year-old Nanaimo man remains in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital after being hit by a car on the highway on ramp Tuesday evening.

Oceanside RCMP Sergeant Darrell Robertson reported the injured man was on foot at the time of the crash.

He said members of the Oceanside RCMP,  as well as from the Parksville Fire Department and BC Ambulance Service responded to the scene at 6 p.m. on Highway 19 just outside Parksville.

Robertson noted the victim was conscious, but suffering injuries to his head and abdomen. He was rushed by ambulance to NRGH, where he remains in acute care. Police are not releasing his name.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash was not injured.

Robertson said an RCMP Collision Analyst was called into assist in the investigation. The cause of the collision will be examined through their investigation.
