Peter Kent is seeking election as a town councillor in Qualicum Beach.

A press release noted “you might have seen him around town as the big guy who was once Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 15-year stunt double, but Peter Kent has proven to be so much more than just ‘The Arnie Guy’.”

Prior to moving back home to Qualicum Beach in 2018 to be closer to family with his wife and twin boys, Kent was elected to District of Squamish council in the 2014 to 2018 term.

During his tenure, according to the release, he served as District Chair of Corporate and Public Services, digital strategy, library board, youth engagement, and transit. In addition, Kent was part of several other task forces such as affordable housing, seniors housing, masterplans, securing grants, art council, film funding, Safe Routes to School, and ‘Under One Roof’ supportive housing for mental health and addictions helping acquire $12 million from BC Housing. Kent has advocated for first responders, improved healthcare, education, sports and recreation, emergency preparedness, environmental initiatives, Truth and Reconciliation, and town growth in alignment with the OCP.

Equipped with a track-record of being well-respected, a robust team player, and high calibre attendance records during his time on council, Kent helped champion winning a national municipal team award for professional development and community engagement for the OCP. Volunteer work includes: Big Brother for The Big Brother & Sisters Foundation of Canada, Easter Seals, Canuck Place Children’s Hospice while his wife Marcia, a nurse, volunteered as PAC president, director of minor hockey and on the board of directors for Sea to Sky Hospice Foundation.

Since the return four years ago to Qualicum Beach raising their sixth generation “Qualicum Beach Boys,” the Kents hope to contribute in a way that honours their past (Kent/Reid) family generations whose legacy to this day spans over a century in Qualicum Beach.

Starting in 1917 and throughout the Second World War, the building known as Oceanside Hospice today, then known as ‘The White House’ was a dorm for nurses looking after soldiers convalescing, one of which their great grandmother was head matron.

According to the release, Kent feels strongly that if Qualicum Beach could incentivize ways over a century ago to attract nurses and doctors in an affordable way to live here, then there is no excuse for this not to be possible today.

“Qualicum Beach is a beautiful community we all live, work, and play in,” he said. “Whether we are growing up or growing old, we grow together.”
