Police bust drug house

Special unit keeps tabs on repeat offenders - and it pays off

Members of the RCMP’s  Crime Reduction Unit swooped down on a suspected drug house on Weld Street Wednesday evening.

RCMP Sergeant Darrell Robertson said police had strong suspicions illegal drugs were being sold there.

When officers executed a search warrant on the home they seized crack cocaine, hashish, money and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

As a result, a 26-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, both from Parksville, were arrested.

Robertson said police have recommended charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking against both, as well as one count of breach of probation against the male. Robertson said both people are known to police.

The woman was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date, while the man was slated to appear in court later this week.

Robertson said the investigation was just one of several being undertaken by the unit, which targets high risk, repeat offenders.
