It didn’t take long for police to put two and two together to come up with a pair of young thieves.

Oceanside RCMP Corporal Richard van de Pol said police received a call about a break and enter at 6:15 p.m. Monday evening from a man in an apartment in the 800 block of East Island Highway.

The man said he had just heard a loud banging sound and glass breaking from an upstairs apartment.

“The man said the banging he heard sounded like a shotgun blast,” van de Pol said, noting two young females were observed near the area.

Police quickly determined a window had been smashed to gain entry. Once inside they found items thrown about and smashed, but no one was found to be at home and no suspects were inside.

As police were investigating this matter, another call was received, this one complaining of two females who had been causing problems on a transit bus earlier.

Police were told one of the two stole a cell phone from another passenger and police noted the description of the two females was similar to the females observed near the scene of the break in.

Police located the two and found them to be in possession of property that belonged to the owner of the residence which was broken into. They were also in possession of the cell phone stolen from a passenger on the bus.

These two females whose names cannot be released because of their age, were arrested for break and enter as well possession of stolen property. Both are from Nanaimo. One of the two females was released from police custody to the care of her parent. The second female, presently on bail, was in breach of the conditions and as such she was held in custody to appear before a Provincial Court Judge.
