RCMP have released a composite sketch of a sexual assault suspect in an attack that occurred on Sept. 9 in Port Alberni.

The assault happened in the early morning hours against a 17-year-old female staying at the Hospitality Inn in Port Alberni.

The young woman from Ahousaht was in that city attending the Alberni Valley Fall Fair and was partying with friends in a ground floor room. After retiring for the night, the victim awoke to find an unknown male sexually assaulting her, according to police.

Police describe the assailant as Caucasian — possibly part Native with tanned skin — in his 20s with medium brown, curly hair down to his ears, cut in a shape similar to an afro.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect is encouraged to contact the Port Alberni RCMP at 250-723-2424, or reports can be made anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
