The investigation into who was responsible for the savage beating of a Parksville man is continuing, but police are frustrated by a dearth of clues in the case.

Travis Schug, a six-foot-two, 325-pound former football player from Parksville, was found unconscious and bleeding outside the Harbor City Dance Studio at the intersection of Bastion St. and Skinner  Street in Nanaimo at approximately 3 a.m. on Sun., May 15. He was suffering from a fractured skull and had injuries consistent with being in some form of altercation.

What police do know, said Nanaimo RCMP Constable Gary O’Brien is that the 24-year-old personal trainer had been celebrating with the VI Raiders football team when he became separated from his friends.

After that however, things get murky.

“We have not identified who was responsible for his injuries,” O’Brien said. “We are receiving a number of tips from the general public and we are following up on them, but we are not much further ahead.”

O’Brien said Schug was known to have visited several liquor establishments on Skinner Street between 1 and 2 a.m. and is believed to have consumed alcohol. Although he was surrounded by a small group of people when police arrived on the scene, police were not able to glean much information from them. As well, he added, Schug was unable to recall what happened that night.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477or go online at www.nanaimocrimestoppers.com.
