B.C. Premier Christy Clark is in Parksville Wednesday to tour the health centre site and to hold a women's only business meeting.

PARKSVILLE - B.C  Premier Christy Clark will be in Parksville tomorrow (Wed., Aug. 22) for a tour of the Oceanside Health Centre site. She is also in the city to hold a women-only business meeting, one of many she has been hosting across the province.

Clark will join BC Liberal MLA Ron Cantelon at the construction site of the health centre, on Highway 4A near Despard Avenue in Parksville. She is expected to be there at around 11 a.m. and will proceed to The Beach Club for the business luncheon, hosted by the Premier and the Parksville and District Chamber of Commerce. It is a women-only affair, the nature of which has been garnering plenty of attention around the province for its 'no-men-allowed' stance.

Mike Morton, Clark’s press secretary, told Black Press she has hosted about a dozen women-only meetings across the province since June. He said the meeting begins with a brief introduction followed by about an hour of open discussion and there is no set agenda – the idea is to hear from women about issues that are important to them.

Clark will be arriving in Parksville following a similar meeting in Nanaimo earlier in the day.

The Oceanside Health Centre is currently under construction in Parksville at the Trillium Lodge site off of Despard Avenue. The centre, expected to be open 15 hours a day, seven days a week, should be complete by late summer, 2013.
