Qualicum Beach voters return to the polls on May 15 for a byelection to fill the vacant council slot left after Adam Walker was elected MLA for Parksville-Qualicum. The PQB News asked each of the five registered candidates to submit short bios. A question-and-answer feature will also appear closer to election day.

Brian Denbigh

I was born in Austria and immigrated to Canada with my family. I am a proud Canadian citizen. I spent the majority of my life in Nanaimo where I went to school, worked and raised two sons.

I retired from municipal government with 43 years of service, specifically working with the City of Nanaimo. I spent 15 years as the Superintendent of Sanitation and 28 years as the Manager of Roads and Traffic Services.

I was responsible for substantial budgets at times in excess of several millions of dollars and dealt with all levels of government.

I proudly served as an Auxiliary RCMP Officer for 11 years.

I also held director positions on the Nanaimo Art Gallery and Exhibition Centre and with the Loyal Nanaimo Bathtub Society.

I enjoy motorcycling and fishing when I get the chance.

If I am fortunate enough to work for the citizens of Qualicum Beach, you can be assured that I will bring a wealth of expertise, understanding and professionalism to the job.

I will keep the citizens first and foremost.
