Anne Skipsey will be sworn in as the Town of Qualicum Beach’s newest councillor on May 27.
All the ballots of the byelection held May 15 have been tallied and results were made official on Wednesday, May 19. Skipsey garnered the most votes — advance voting (714), mail-in-ballots (429) and general voting (396) — with 1,539. Finishing in second was Sarah Duncan with 1,017, followed by Jean Young at 431, Peter Kent at 342 and Brian Denbigh with 36.
Of the 8,270 eligible voters that included 149 new registrations, the total number of ballots cast was 3,366 which represents a 40.7 per cent voter turnout.
Skipsey is no stranger to the town chambers as she previously served as councillor from 2014 to 2018. She will fill the position left vacant by Adam Walker, who was elected the new MLA for Parksville-Qualicum in November of 2020.
The town is governed by a council of five elected officials, one mayor and four councillors.
