The Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce (QBCC) has hired Michael Garland as its new chief executive officer.

Garland was looking forward to retiring this year when his contract for part-time work as programs administrator for Oceanside Community Safety was not renewed. But the Qualicum Beach Chamber of Commerce called last December and offered him a job as CEO.

The position was formerly held by Kim Burden, who managed both the Qualicum Beach Chamber and also the Parksville & District Chamber of Commerce and is now retired.

The QBCC, said Garland, decided to return to its previous model of having its own dedicated executive director.

He looks forward to the completion of the many plans the QBCC has laid out that include development of a mobile Visitor Information Centre kiosk that will be deployed at various events in Qualicum Beach, as well as exploration for a new waterfront visitor information centre, bringing more businesses into the chamber family and recruitment of a volunteer corp to assist the Town of Qualicum Beach with events.
