Qualicum Beach issues notice of nomination period for vacant councillor post

Packages now available at town hall

The nomination period for the vacant councillor position for the Town of Qualicum Beach will start at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 30 and run to 4 p.m., Friday, April 9.

A byelection will be held on May 15 to replace Adam Walker, now the MLA for Parksville-Qualicum, for the remainder of the current council term ending Oct. 22.

Nomination packages, including required forms, are now available for pickup at the town hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Friday (excluding statutory holidays).

Candidates are required to call 250-738-2207 to make an appointment with chief election officer Heather Svenson to submit their nomination papers. Due to COVID-19 the office is closed from 1 p.m. daily. To make a submission after 1 p.m., candidates must make an appointment with Svenson.

Nomination papers will be accepted until 4 p.m., April 9.

For eligible voters, if you want to know if your name is on the current list of electors, you can all the town between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. or visit town hall. Electors wishing to register for the first time must produce two pieces of identification that provide evidence of the applicant’s identity and place of residence. One must include the applicant’s signature or alternatively, provide two pieces of identification verifying identity in addition to making a solemn declaration as to the applicant’s place of residence.

Advance elector registrations will be accepted at town hall until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23.
