Qualicum Beach loses a 'council watchdog'

Long-time resident Frank Horner died Saturday at the age of 88

Mayor Teunis Westbroek opened the Qualicum Beach town council meeting Monday night on a sad note when he reported the community's loss of long-time resident Frank Horner, who died Saturday at the age of 88 after a courageous battle with leukemia.

"Frank will be sadly missed," said Westbroek. "He was council's watchdog for 20 years."

Horner was a frequent contributor to the letters to editor pages of The NEWS and the father of former assistant editor Neil Horner.

At Frank Horner's request, there will not be services, but the family said it will have a gathering of friends and family in his honour early in the new year.

From our family at The NEWS to the Horner family, we offer our condolences.
