A Qualicum Beach teenager avoided serious injury but a 21-year-old Qualicum Beach man faces charges following a vehicle/pedestrian collision witnesses said “appeared deliberate” on a residential street in Qualicum Beach Wednesday afternoon.
Oceanside RCMP, B.C. Ambulance and The Qualicum Beach Volunteer Fire Department were called to a residential address in Qualicum Beach at 1:15 p.m. Feb. 15, to reports of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
Upon arrival, first responders found a 16-year-old female who resides on the street was located underneath a vehicle. The girl was found conscious and breathing but in “obvious distress”, RCMP said in a news release. She was taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment in stable condition, and RCMP reported Thursday she was expected to be released soon as "her injuries are no longer considered serious in nature."
The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle, a 21-year-old Qualicum Beach man, was known to the victim. Witnesses to the event confirmed the collision appeared deliberate, the RCMP stated in the news release.
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was arrested immediately upon police attendance. He was taken into custody but has since been released on recognizance, with several conditions attached, police said.
He is scheduled to appear in Nanaimo Provincial Court March 9 on charges that have not yet been specified.
