Town of Qualicum Beach staff has reported how much St. Andrews Park and the Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Club costs the taxpayers.
As requested by town council, staff compiled a report highlighting the revenues and expenditures associated with the two town-owned properties.
Coun. Scott Harrison made the motion to direct staff to come up with a report on the golf course and wanted to give the public a better idea on the financial operation of the facility.
St Andrews Park was purchased in 2018 for $3,431,935. Since then, some work was done to the property that included removal of beach park cottages, landscaping, tree maintenanc, fence installation, repairs to the parking lot, painting, installation of a basketball hoop and general cleanup of the ground. The cost has increased to $3,701,279 since 2018.

As for the Qualicum Beach Memorial Golf Club, the town purchased the land in 1981 for $1,012,448. The old clubhouse was demolished in 2008 and a new one was built at cost of $2,426,516, which the club continues to pay for. It has cost the town $3,530,900.
The revenues the town receives from the club include regular lease payments of $76,000 annually and also $50,000 that goes towards paying for the cost of the new clubhouse.
To date, the club has paid $1,615,956 for the clubhouse and by the time the current agreement expires in 2035, the total payment for the clubhouse is estimated to be $2,315,956, which staff indicated essentially pays for the clubhouse.
The regular lease payments made by the club from 1995 to 2021 amounted to $1,860,250. The town was not able to track down the revenues generated from 1981 to 1994 but staff used the lessor estimated amount to bring the total revenue generated from the golf club to $3,776,206.
