Quorum kerfuffle 'gone' in Qualicum Beach— Coun. Dave Willie

Qualicum Beach councillor says as far as he is concerned the issue is behind council now

Dave Willie says this "ridiculous" issue is now behind the town council of Qualicum Beach.

The town councillor was reacting to questions about a committee of the whole meeting Wednesday when the group dealt with issues surrounding what does, and what does not constitute an official council meeting.

Town staff supplied more than 150 pages of lawyer's opinions and Community Charter excerpts for the meeting. Essentially, it came down to opinions on whether three of the five councillors could be at the same community function or meeting at the same time and whether or not that constituted a quorum and became a de facto meeting of council, one that was not advertised or had an agenda and was therefore illegal or contrary to rules laid out in the Charter.

"It really isn't a meeting unless it's published as a meeting and a decision is made or vote is taken," said Willie. "It (the issue) is not only behind us, it's gone and I don't ever want to talk about it again."
