Two women arrested and later released by RCMP for allegedly shoplifting from Coombs businesses on Nov. 26 were found near a stolen vehicle.
A 22-year-old woman from Nanaimo “got into a physical confrontation with the attending police officer while being arrested,” according to an Oceanside RCMP news release.
Police got reports of a group of people “at the Coombs Emporium, shoplifting from local businesses” Nov. 26 at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Attending officers found two young women from Nanaimo “located in or around” a vehicle stolen from a residence on Smithers Road in Parksville the day before. The women are “believed to be responsible for the thefts from the businesses,” said the news release.
The release added: “It is believed that the two females were working together with two young male accomplices, however, they had fled prior to police attendance.”
The second woman arrested was a 31-year-old Nanaimo resident. Both, after being taken to RCMP cells, were later released on Promises to Appear in Nanaimo provincial court on Jan. 8.
“The vehicle has been recovered and stolen items have been returned to businesses in Coombs,” said the news release.
