The Regional District of Nanaimo is permitting campfires at the Horne Lake Regional Park and Descanso Bay Regional Park campgrounds.

The lifting of the ban took effect on Sept. 21. The action reflects Coastal Fire Centre’s notice that campfires are now permitted throughout the Fire Centre area.

The public is reminded that outside of the two designated RDN campgrounds, fires of any kind are always prohibited in RDN regional and community parks and trails.

The Regional District’s overall ban on smoking in RDN parks and trails has also been lifted.

To report a wildfire call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on most cellular networks.
