The break from bus fare is coming to an end, though other pandemic safety measures will still be in place on RDN Transit buses.
The Regional District of Nanaimo advised in a press release that it will resume collecting bus fares starting Monday, June 1.
The RDN noted that temporary vinyl panels have now been installed to allow for a physical barrier between the driver and passengers.
“These safety measures will allow for a return to front door loading and collection of fares on all conventional, community and HandyDART services,” the press release noted.
Limited seating capacity remains in effect, and the RDN says enhanced cleaning of buses will continue.
The RDN says it is following guidance of the provincial health officer, WorkSafe B.C. and B.C. Transit and that it is aligning its service with the province’s re-start plan.
Use of face masks is encouraged both on buses and at bus stops where physical distancing is challenging. RDN Transit will not provide face masks to passengers.
The transit service also announced that it will resume its Route 25 ferry shuttle to and from Departure Bay ferry terminal starting June 3, as B.C. Ferries resume sailings there that day. The schedule isn’t finalized, but will be posted to www.rdn.bc.ca/transit-schedules.
