The Regional District of Nanaimo has appointed Jacquie Hill as the chief election officer for the 2022 general municipal elections on Oct. 15.

The RDN board endorsed Hill’s appointment as well as the following as deputy chief election officers: Delcy Wells, Jessica Bagnall, Gail Smith and Cheryl Golding.

During the election, the board also agreed to suspend public engagements led by elected officials from Aug. 30 to Nov. 8 to avoid any appearance of the RDN providing platforms for election-related activities.

The nomination period will start on Aug. 30 and will close on Sept. 9. Staff indicated it is important for the RDN to maintain neutrality in the eyes of the public.

The last board meeting of the current board is Oct. 11 and the new board will be sworn in Nov. 8.
