Regional District of Nanaimo cancels events due to rising cases of COVID-19

Annual Polar Bear Splash in Parksville will no longer take place

The Regional District of Nanaimo is cancelling a number of events in response to the latest orders released by the public health office.

Due to rising COVID-19 case counts, the PHO has taken preventive measures that will be applied until Jan. 31, 2022.

In the regional district, effective Dec. 19, all sports tournaments for youth and adults will be cancelled. As well, the New Year’s Eve Celebration at Oceanside Place Arena and the annual Polar Bear Splash in Parksville will no longer be allowed to take place.

The RDN recreation department indicated they will be contacting and working directly with tournament and event organizers as needed. Organizers can also reach out directly to RDN Recreation at 1-888-828-2069.

Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League games will still be played at Oceanside Place.

Proof of vaccination will be required for all events, now of any size, at both the Oceanside Place Arena and Ravensong Aquatic Centre.Spectators of events or recreation programs at both Oceanside Place Arena and Ravensong Aquatic Centre are required to provide proof of vaccination.

The RDN recreation facilities remain open and programs are running in accordance with current PHO orders. They will continue to ensure the webpage at rdn.bc.ca/recreation is up to date with any recreation event or facility changes.
