Regional District of Nanaimo offers information sessions, resources for election candidates

The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is offering two information sessions for people interested in running as a candidate in the 2022 General Local Elections, Oct. 15.

The sessions will cover the duties of elected officials and the election process. They will take place on Aug. 9 at the RDN board chambers on 6300 Hammond Bay Rd., Nanaimo, with the first session scheduled from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the second to take place from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

For those unable to attend in person, the sessions will be webstreamed and a recording will be posted on the RDN website.

In addition, nomination packages for the 2022 General Local Elections are available for pick up at the RDN Administration Office (6300 Hammond Bay Rd.) and are also on the RDN website. The packages include all the information needed to run as a candidate in the General Local Elections.

Candidates may file nomination papers with the chief election officer at the RDN Administration Office during the nomination period, beginning at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 30, and ending at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9.

Those unable to deliver nominations in person may swear the documents before a commissioner for taking affidavits in B.C. and mail, deliver, fax or email documents to the attention of the CEO by the deadline. If documents are sent by fax or email, the CEO must receive the originals by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 16. Nomination documents will be added to the RDN website as they are received.
