The Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) is conducting a survey inviting residents to share their thoughts on the priorities they would like the RDN board to consider in the 2024-2028 financial plan.
Input collected from the survey will be provided to the board as part of the annual budgeting process and will help identify the areas of service most important to regional district residents.
Helpful background information such as what is budgeted for each electoral area, where the funding comes from and what RDN services are provided is available on the RDN Budget Talks webpage.
“There are many valuable areas of service provided by the RDN to residents that are paid for either fully or partially by taxes,” said Vanessa Craig, RDN chair. “From parks and recreation, to drinking water and transit, the public’s input on these services is an important part of the budgeting process. The survey is an opportunity for residents to share their thoughts and budget priorities with us.”

RDN residents can get involved, ask questions and share input by:
• Registering at getinvolved.rdn.ca/rdn-budget-talks. This two-way communication tool enables residents to complete the budget survey and get their questions answered by the RDN Finance Department. All questions and answers will be displayed on the webpage so others can see what is being discussed and gain insight into the budget process.
• Reviewing budget and property tax information for their electoral area.
• Watching videos that provide an overview of the RDN and the budgeting process.
• Completing the budget survey.
The preliminary 2024-2028 financial plan is set to be presented to the RDN Board at the November and December board meetings this year. Once the board approves the budget schedule, the information will be posted online and shared publicly.
Residents can complete the survey until July 14, at getinvolved.rdn.ca/rdn-budget-talks. Hard copies of the survey are available by request to RDN residents who do not have access to a computer.
