The Regional District of Nanaimo Transit will provide extended services on New Year’s Eve.

This will give people taking part in activities in their respective communities a safe alternative mode of transportation. The added services will be provided to residents in Nanaimo as well as those in Parksville Qualicum Beach and area.

The goal is to encourage New Year’s revellers to leave their vehicles at home and use the transit service. It will be free of charge starting from 8 p.m. to approximately 2:30 a.m.

Staff indicated the revenue loss for providing the extended services, which the RDN has done in the past during New Year’s, is estimated at approximately $1,500.
