The Regional District of Nanaimo is inviting residents to learn about the budgeting process.
The RDN is currently developing the 2023-2027 financial plan and is offering residents an opportunity to understand how this is done. They can find out what services are included in the budget, how those services are funded and more at getinvolved.rdn.ca/rdn-budget-talks.
The public can watch videos, review budget and background documents, and ask questions of the finance department using the online Q & A feature.
To receive the latest information directly in their inboxes, residents can also sign up for budget updates by registering on the RDN’s Get Involved website and subscribing to the RDN Budget Talks email updates.
“Budgeting is an important but complex process that ensures the RDN has the funds needed to deliver a wide range of services to residents including transit, recreation and parks, wastewater treatment, garbage collection, and drinking water, amongst other services,” said Vanessa Craig, RDN chair.
“The RDN Budget Talks webpage is an easy-to-use resource to help residents better understand how the budgeting process works, which services they receive based on where they live in the RDN and how budget decisions directly impact them.”
The budgeting process involves multiple steps including review, input and approval by the RDN board. The 2023–2027 financial plan will be presented at meetings of the Committee of the Whole and the Board in December, January and February.
Regional districts are required to approve a financial plan on or before March 31 each year. Residents can view the meeting calendar and watch the meetings via livestream or recordings online at rdn.bc.ca/agendas-minutes-videos.
