Phase two of the French Creek Active Transportation project is underway and the Regional District of Nanaimo invites residents of French Creek and neighbouring areas to comment on draft network options.
The options were developed using the input collected from residents last summer. Residents can provide their feedback on these options through an online survey until March 25 via the project webpage, and during a virtual information session on March 10.
The community input received through the survey and virtual session will help prioritize and refine options for active transportation infrastructure improvements in French Creek. The active transportation final report will include implementation options and be incorporated as an amendment to the Electoral Area G Official Community Plan to help guide future land use decisions.

Active transportation includes all human-powered forms of travel, including walking, cycling, inline skating and skateboarding, as well as complementary electric forms of travel like electric bikes and mobility scooters.
Residents of French Creek, Parksville and Qualicum Beach travel within and through the French Creek area for services, school and work. French Creek, however, lacks the sufficient sidewalks, trails and wider road shoulders residents and commuters need to actively travel through the community. Once the project is complete, roadside improvements will provide a safer, more accessible active transportation network in the area.
