Some residents of the Parksville Qualicum Beach area experienced flooding and power outages on Friday, Jan. 31, due to heavy rainfall in the area.

Today could bring more of the same— the Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department warned drivers about potential flooding at Little Qualicum River Bridge at Hwy 19a at high tide at approximately 10 a.m. Mainroad Mid-Island Contracting LP, who are responsible for dealing with roads in the area, have been notified.

The department is warning residents to stay safe and keep away from riverbanks.

Yesterday a portion of the road at the 5100 block of Island Hwy. between Boorman road and Goodyear road was flooded. Also, Hwy 19a at Evanson Rd north of Qualicum Beach was affected by the rainfall — rocks and debris were washed onto the highway and drivers were warned to drive carefully.
