The Rotary Club of Parksville will be removing garbage from the base of Little Mountain on Sunday, Nov. 21.
This will be the last major removal of garbage from the mountain, with the assistance of Kestrel Helicopters, which again donated their services to the cleanup, that takes place from 10 a.m. until noon.
All the garbage lifted out of the area will be lowered to a spot at the end of Bellevue Road and then sorted into bins and trucks to take to the Church Road Transfer Station.
Over the years, people have used Little Mountain as a dumping ground, tossing garbage as big as appliances and couches, as well as bicycles, car parts, shopping carts, junked electronics and more over a 100-foot cliff. The rubbish ends up strewn all over the base of the mountain.

Diana Matsuda of the Rotary Club indicated that the cleanup was a 3-year project that has been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2019, the Rotary Club of Parksville AM joined residents of the Little Mountain area and other volunteers to remove trash. Approximately seven seven tonnes was removed including a tonne of tires, three-and-a-half tonnes of metal and more than two tonnes of assorted garbage.
Matsuda hopes after this cleanup effort they will finally see Little Mountain returned to its original state.
