Looking for a new equipment truck/rescue vehicle and funding to expand space to house it, Arrowsmith Search and Rescue found support, but no cash yet from Parksville city council.
Nick Rivers spoke to council about the work that ASR does and their struggles with funding, especially for the unglamorous operational costs like insurance and electricity.
Mayor Chris Burger agreed, pointing out that the group doesn’t have any secure annual funding and that council recognizes the importance of what they do on 15 to 50 searches a year.
“These guys are really important to have, we need to do what we can to allow them to do their job and come rescue us,” Burger later told The NEWS.
The group is looking for $15,000 a year in predictable funds that they can then use to continue fundraising for other capital projects.
Council agreed to send the topic to the RDN board through representative Marc Lefebvre.
