Adding fuel to an ongoing fire, the Ministry of Agriculture announced Friday the government issued three licences to harvest seaweed in the Deep Bay/Bowser region.

RDN director Bill Veenhof said he was “intensely disappointed” with the government’s decision and lack of public consultation about the harvest, which has proved to be an issue of contention amongst his constituents. Alberni-Pacific Rim MLA Scott Fraser echoed Veenhof’s sentiments saying “this is unacceptable — the people of this region deserve to be heard.”
