Second degree murder charge laid

Second person who was arrested released for lack of evidence

The name of a man charged with the murder of an Errington man has been released.

Police say Oceanside resident Clayton Donald Brewer, 35, has been remanded in custody, facing one count of second degree murder in relation to the death of 47-year-old Douglas Trebble.

Trebble’s body was found by a neighbour the afternoon of July 2. Trebble lived alone in the trailer in the Pine Estates mobile home park at 1050 Bowlby Road.

Brewer was arrested last week along with a second person, a female, who was arrested at a different location.

The woman was later released without charge because of insufficient evidence. However, police say she remains a person of interest in the case.

Brewer’s next court appearance is slated for December 13 in Nanaimo.

The investigation into the Trebble’s killing is continuing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit at 250-380-6200 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
