I feel the need to reply to a letter (The NEWS, March 7) from Maureen Shakespeare about the Qualicum Beach Seniors’ Centre anniversary celebration and its move to the present location.

Although Ann Klees was mentioned by Mayor Teunis Westbroek during his time to speak, I agree that her name was omitted in the newspaper article. Likely this was because Ann had left the centre previous to the move.

Had the occasion been to celebrate the early years, that would have been different. Ann did receive a written invitation to attend, but could not because of a family commitment. She has assured me that she intends to come into the centre at some future date.

I assure you, Maureen, that no disrespect was intended. All of the members who have been with us since the centre’s inception are well aware of the tremendous contribution that Ann made.
