Serious injuries suffered in Whiskey Creek crash

Cobble Hill couple not believed to be in danger from their injuries

The highway between Port Alberni and Qualicum Beach was closed for two hours on August 31 after a van slammed head-on into a rock wall at the side of the road.

Oceanside RCMP Corporal Jesse Foreman said  the crash took place at 10:15 p.m. when the driver of a westbound van lost control of his vehicle and smashed head-on into a rock wall on the opposite side of the highway at Cameron lake.

The driver and female passenger who reside in Cobble Hill suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. They were immediately transported by ambulance to Nanaimo General Regional Hospital where they were later released. The 1987 Chevrolet van was destroyed by the collision.

Members of the Oceanside RCMP as well as members of the RCMP Central Vancouver Island Traffic Service raced to the scene and closed the highway for two hours to investigate the cause of the crash.

Speed and alcohol were not a factor in this collision and no charges are pending.
