In a recent Faith column in The NEWS, Pastor Alan Walker gave a wonderful tribute to spring time; “as we await more of the spring showers which bring May flowers.”
As an immigrant from Holland I remember the months between the ending of the year and the first signs of spring.
Many people in my homeland were in depressive moods, some were deep down in spirits. Our climate is about the same, with dark clouds hanging over us for months on Vancouver Island. Without the happy message of the gospel of the risen Christ, life indeed can become a dreary, yet at times even a dark place to be.
Yet some people, even when cancer has been detected, determinately decide not to give in and not become discouraged. How can one deal with setbacks so well and become an inspiration to many, yet others give up the fight?
Having lost my sweetheart in a time of much need while we were blessed with eight children, the children and I focussed on the fact that mom was now with Jesus whom she loved so very much.
This knowledge helped us in the time of our need to reach out to elderly citizens with music and song. In that way we lived our promise to mom that we would sing to others about Christ’s love to everyone.
Sharing means caring and in return Christ’s love was manifested through peace in our own lives.
