Shelter gets RDN contract

Regional District of Nanaimo approves two-year contract with Nanaimo Animal Shelter

The Regional District of Nanaimo approved a new, two-year  contract to the Nanaimo Animal Shelter for animal control services. However, the move didn't come without controversy.  Nanaimo director Jim Kipp first wanted to know what method is used to euthanize unwanted animals before he was prepared to give it his blessing. "When they kill cats, I hope they are injecting them, not putting them in a box and gassing them," he said. CAO Paul Thorkelson noted that while the shelter doesn't actually have dealings with cats, when they need to put down a dog they in fact use lethal injection.
