Theft foiled by security

Tools taken from fire hall construction were recovered

NANOOSE BAY — The sharp eyes of a security guard are being credited with foiling a theft from a local fire hall.

RCMP Corporal Jesse Foreman said a private security guard with Footprints Security reported a theft in progress from a tool trailer at the Nanoose Bay Fire Hall, currently under construction. The guard said he observed a truck with two males driving from the construction site with tools loaded in the back.

Foreman said the security guard made key observations about the incident and immediately shared that information with police.

The RCMP investigation resulted in the arrest of a 14-year-old boy, a 23-year-old man from the Oceanside area and a 19-year-old man from the Cowichan Valley.

The stolen tools were recovered.
