Approximately $100,000 worth of items have been reported stolen from a Bowser home between Jan. 9 and Jan. 26, while the owners were on vacation.

Darrell McKay, owner of the Crosley Road home, said he was on vacation in Costa Rica when the thefts occurred.

Among the items stolen from a very lengthy list include cameras, lenses, four Kona mountain bikes, a 27-inch iMac, Macbook Pro, iPad, portable hard drives, Garmin Fenix watch, a tent, fishing rods, wetsuits, Gortex shell jackets, a camping stove, chainsaw and more.

“They stole food, they stole steaks from the freezer, I’ve got a pretty extensive list,” McKay said. “My house is really small and open and it was really easy to access everything.”

Also among the list of items stolen were all of McKay’s underwear.

Most devastating for McKay was the fact that items belonging to his recently deceased father were stolen as well.

“My dad just died, they stole all of his coin collections, they stole all of his memorabilia and they stole his walking cane,” he said.

Another disturbing thing that McKay found was the placement of two backpacks on a heater in the home with the heat turned to high.

“They tore my medicine cabinet mirror off the wall and just threw stuff all over the place… and I turned around and I looked and noticed it was really hot in there and the only two backpacks they left, they stacked tightly against the heater and cranked the heat up.”

McKay was supposed to take another trip to Africa to take photos for a non-profit foundation in mid-February but has since cancelled.

“All my camera gear is gone, all my lenses, everything is gone. My insurance is going to cover that but I’m not mentally fit to go and take a trip,” McKay said.

Sgt. Stephen Rose with the Oceanside RCMP said they are investigating.
