UPDATE: Power is back on (1:46 p.m.) in various area locals but 13,000 remain without power. Hydro officials said it would be restored within the hour.
Approximately 27,000 customers throughout the Parksville Qualicum Beach area are without power as of 12:45 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5.
BC Hydro’s outage map currently lists ‘transmission circuit failure’ as the cause of the problem. BC Hydro spokesman Ted Olynyk said there were reports of a transmission line down.
According to a social media post from the utility, crews were expected to arrive on site at about 1:30 p.m. No estimate was available in terms of restoration of power.
