Celebrating 50 years of curling, the Qualicum & District Curling Club will have three teams in three different provincial tournaments.
Starting at the high school level, the KSS team of Jackson Marshall, Duncan Gallop, Ben Meldrum and Tyler Wiersma, are in Creston, B.C. for the B.C. high school junior provincial championships this weekend.
Also this week is the B.C. senior curling championships in Port Alberni. The Noble rink out of Qualicum Beach (Lynn Noble, Donna Langlands, Crystal Murray, Shirley Wong), went unbeaten on day one, winning 7-6 in their first match over the Freeman rink (Quesnel) and 5-2 over the Roemer rink (Royal City).
The B.C. masters championships take place March 3-8 and will feature the Feltham rink, with Bruce Feltham, Rob Findlay, Gary Stephens, Gary Nolan and Cliff Gussie in action in Nanaimo.
The club also hosted their 50th Ladies Bonspiel last week. Over 30 teams came out and there was even a perfect eight-ender, on Friday the 13th no less, by Cindy Peachy, Shannon Roberts, Kim Sulz and Colleen Bennett.
‘A’ event winners, sponsored by What’s Cooking, were Hazel Watson, Rose Conlin, Michelle Stewart and Dena Wilson. ‘B’ event winners, sponsored by Pharmasave, went to Diane Flinta, Ann Fyfe, Lisa Oleksiuk and Denine Swensen. The ‘C’ event, sponsored by Village Garage, was won by the team of Kelly Jones, Deb McKinney, Rosalee Floyd and Natalie Lowe. Winners of the ’D’ event, sponsored by Marshall & Lamperson, were Colleen Robson, Kathy Branch, Jennifer Zbinden and Cheryl Sellers.
