Many artists want the freedom of expression that painting abstracts can give them. But how does one make a successful abstract painting?

Teresa Knight will help guide students through the steps required in an abstract painting class, to be held Oct. 21 through Dec. 9 at the Old School House Arts Centre.

Class sessions will be held each Wednesday, from 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Students will learn helpful guidelines they may follow, such as principles of design and colour, how to find a starting point and then develop the painting, and effective use of composition.  They will also learn about the emotional effects of colours and design, and get be able to better direct your artistic process.

To put it all in to context, Teresa will go over the history of abstract painting and the what various artists throughout history were trying to achieve.

Cost for members is $35.00; for non-members the fee is $145.00. The Old School House Arts Centre is located at 122 Fern Road West in Qualicum Beach. To register or for more info, call 250-752-6133.
